Here's another single I always welcome back to the store with open arms: In this case, it's a beautiful, pristine Mint copy of U2's first U.S. Top 40 hit, in a gorgeous copy of its striking picture sleeve (see scan). On the back, the sleeve sports an inspiring photo of Martin Luther King, along with the following King quote:\r\n
Hatred and bitterness can never cure the disease of fear; only love can do that.
Hatred paralyzes life; love releases it.
Hatred confuses life; love harmonizes it.
Hatred darkens life; love illumines it.
May I just say that this sentiment needs to be expressed today as urgently as it did back in the mid-1960s. We are too close to letting ourselves hate each other because of fear and ignorance, a proclivity to which, sadly, we humans have shown too often to be susceptible over the long course of history.
Though not one of their biggest hits at the time, U2's tribute to King, "Pride," remains one of their very best songs and most lasting contributions to Rock music. Rolling Stone honors the song by pegging it at #388 in their Top 500 singles list. The B side is a previously unreleased, non album cut. (One of the reasons why collecting U2 45s is so rewarding!) Note: This beautiful copy has Mint labels and very nearly Mint vinyl and audio.
