Like the Kinks, Van Morrison also abandoned garage rock after a brief flirtation with it in his time with Them ("Gloria," "Mystic Eyes," etc). And this was the first statement of his new direction. It was such a new direction, in fact, that I don't think many fans of "Brown Eyed Girl" realize that Van Morrison wrote and sang lead vocal on "Gloria."
