According to the excellent liner notes:\r\n
Each of the ten recordings included here was at one time envisioned for seven-inch release on some level. Certain song-pairings made it as far as the test pressing stage; they were assigned catalog numbers and, in some cases, received advance radio airplay. Others were abandoned by the group members, themselves, for their own artistic reasons at the session's wrap; and still others were unmercifully cancelled by Columbia Records in favor of a new and differently envisioned coupling considered to be more commercially viable.
