Crackin' Up/ The Great Grandfather

This is a nice original copy from the Louise Neal collection. One of Bo Diddley's most sought-after singles, this one, oddly enough was his first to hit the Bilozoard Hot 100 Singles chart. None of Diddley's previous classics (including "I'm A Man" and "Bo Diddley") got that far. Simply quintessential Bo Diddley, this is the first copy (original or reissue) I've been able to offer in the store. This pressing mis-spells the writer credit as "B. McDaniel." By the way, the Gants recorded a version of this tune later in the 1960s that's included in Dave Marsh's list of the 1,001 Greatest Singles of Rock'n'Soul! Note: This 45 is among those in the Neal collection that she may have actually played, and which sadly spent some of their life outside a protective sleeve. The 45s in this category may have more noticeable storage wear (ringwear and scuffs/scratches), and the audio may not be pristine due to imperfect grooves. In this case, the labels grade a strong Excellent, with very light ringwear; the B side label is Near Mint. Looking at the VG vinyl, I wasn't optimistic about the audio. But sometimes you get lucky, and in this case the very light surface noise is inaudible once the music is going, so I'm calling it Near Mint. (Have a listen to the snippet to hear for yourself!)
