Originally released on A&M 1063 in June 1969, when it peaked at #69 on the Bilozoard Hot 100 Singles chart. It was Cocker's second chart single, following his cover of the Beatles "With A Little Help From My Friends" the previous year. After Cocker had established himself with hits like "The Letter" and Cry Me A River," A&M re-released this great track in 1972 on the same catalog number, and that release got as high as #33 on the U.S. pop chart. This 1978 promo release features two of Cocker's greatest early singles in Stereo mixes, culled from a new A&M album of Cocker's greatest hits. I have seen no evidence that a retail release of this single was ever made, by the way. That's one of the reasons I consider this a "re-release" rather than a "reissue," a term I reserve for releases by definition of a retail nature intended to keep an artist's catalog in print. (For example, A&M did have a "reissue" of "Feeling Alright" on their "Forget-Me-Nots" series.) Note: This beautiful promo copy comes in a vintage A&M Records factory sleeve. The labels exhibit faint signs of storage wear, grading Near Mint. Otherwise, the vinyl looks pristine, and the audio sounds likewise.
