This is one of the most sublime recordings to come out of 1973. It's a song that everyone knows, but which has never been a huge hit for anyone. A few Country artists did fine covers  in particular, Sammi Smith's 1977 version  and if you do a search in iTunes, you'll find umteen covers by folks like the Dixie Chicks, Elvis Presley, Kris Kristofferson & Rita Coolidge, Kenny Rogers, Millie Jackson, and Irma Thomas. But frankly, this one beats 'em all, except perhaps for Sammi Smith's (he says, hedging). Note: This beautiful 45 record comes in a vintage MCA Records factory sleeve. It grades Near Mint across the board (Labels, Vinyl, Audio), with only very minor flaws such as a touch of surface noise especially during the quiet intro.
