Play The Thing

This is a new, unplayed promo copy from the Louise Neal 45 Collection, in its original promo-only sleeve. This special promo 45 is pressed on clear Red vinyl. Morris was a Black jazz organist, and this is the only single that registered on a U.S. National chart. When I first heard the track, I didn't think I could call it Jazz, but wasn't sure what genre to put it in. I noticed that Northern Soul fans see this as a "Latin" dance track, but I don't want to call it "Latin" either. So, I just ended up putting it in as a Soul Instrumental. And it's a really fine one — so fine I had to quickly put an mp3 snippet in our "jukebox" so you could hear the track. The bluesy B side is "Bad Business Baby", credited to "John 'Mr. Soul' McArthur with the Marlowe Morris Quartet." According to Bilozoard magazine, the single was released in November 1961, but didn't chart until March the following year. Note: This beautiful promo 45 has no notable flaws, grading Mint across the board (Labels, Vinyl, Audio)!
