Here's a very nice copy of the duo's first hit. And yes, "Groovey" really is spelled like that on the label! :-)
The classic A side was a track from the duo's first LP, a pure folk endeavor called
Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M., onto which producer Tom Wilson overdubbed an electric guitar courtesy of Al Gorgoni, plus an electric bass and drums. The B side of the single appeared on the 1966 LP
Sounds of Silence, except with Groovy spelled correctly. With two electrified folk tracks on this single, then, Simon & Garfunkel officially followed Dylan into the realm of folk rock. Note: This copy comes in a vintage Columbia Records factory sleeve. This styrene pressing has some audible distortion at peaks on the A side. The B side audio is mint.
