Twenty-Five Miles

This is a new, unplayed Stereo/Stereo promo copy, in its original picture sleeve... pristine Mint! From a Motown LP called "The Original Soul of Michael Jackson," this recording may disappoint some of the artist's fans, as it did me. The picture sleeve (Note: It reads "For Promotional Use Only" in white type, vertically on one edge.. see scan) has credits not mentioned on the 45 label... for example, "All instruments: Michael Rochelle & Kerry Ashby." And that's pretty much how it sounds... An unremarkable techno/synth pop dance track concocted in the studio to accompany the rescued vocal of Michael Jackson singing an old Edwin Starr nugget. (As it turns out, the vocal is from a 1969 recording by the Jackson Five.) Sadly, in my opinion, the dubbed-in dance track manages to overpower the rescued vocal performance, drawing too much attention to itself and away from the vocals — which, after all, is what we came to hear. Still, for fans, this rare promo single and its promo-only picture sleeve are musts on the way to building a complete collection of Michael Jackson releases.
