The Joy of 45 Collecting: Lost 45 Tunes Not Available from iTunes, Spotify, or Similar Services
Jukebox "Snippet" 45s: Chronological List of Site Additions
As I add 45s to our inventory, I pick select 45s to highlight with mp3 "snippets" so you can hear the music yourself. I only record "snippets" of tunes I particularly like, ones I think have been under-played and under-appreciated, or ones that are so rare and wonderful I'll never hear them otherwise. For myself, I keep an iTunes playlist of these "snippets," and that playlist is one I listen to most often. These pages chronicle the mp3 "snippets" I've added to our online "jukebox" in reverse chronological order. You can browse the pages to see what was added and when. Click on the blue "Play" button to play the snippet, or click on a song's title to load the page. Many of these 45 records are still for sale, though just as many have been sold. I hope you enjoy perusing these pages as much as I have enjoyed putting them together!
What a powerful recording! I don't know about you, but this track's haunting, full-throttle wall-of-sound production really focuses the singer's pain. I had to have a snippet for the jukebox, so... enjoy!
This unusual and wonderful number grabbed me right away, so I've put a snippet of it into the Classic 45s jukebox... have a listen! Having listened to the snippet a number of times now, I'm raising our rating to 2 stars, our highest recommendation.
This is the one of the nicest copies of this classic Funky Soul single that I've ever had... it literally shows no signs of wear at all. Though the label doesn't say so, this is a dramatically edited version of the album cut, which clocks at 6:02!
This remarkable soul single is blessed with two very strong entries: A top-notch Philly style vocal group ballad on the A side (check out the mp3 snippet) and a mid tempo Impressions-style number on the flip.
For some odd reason, some Chess record plants still released a few 45's on the old Blue/Silver/Vertical-Title design as late as 1966. This is one of those rare copies of this design released for Chess 1966. Most copies of this 45 appeared on the new light-blue Chess label, while a few appeared on the black Chess label that was being phased out in 1966. The design on this copy was phased out in 1963. (To my knowledge, this release never appeared with the maroon Chess label.)
Both sides of this obscure 1970 Soul single are top-notch keepers! The A side features some surprising, catchy rhythms that'll definitely keep your feet moving, and the B side has become a favorite... quite special. Listen to the MP3 snippet we've added to the "jukebox" to see if you agree.
