Alice in Chains is an American rock band formed in Seattle in 1987. Known for their distinctive vocal style, they feature the harmonized vocals of lead vocalist Layne Staley and guitarist Jerry Cantrell, who also writes most of the band's songs. Their heavy, ominous sound is considered a defining force in the grunge movement of the 1990s, with influential works such as the multi-platinum albums "Dirt" and "Alice in Chains". Despite Staley's death in 2002, the band continues to record and perform with new lead vocalist William DuVall.
