Rhythm and Blues, commonly abbreviated as RnB, is a genre of popular music that originated in African American communities in the 1940s. Its sound is characterized by a strong beat with a focus on the rhythm section and often includes elements from jazz, gospel, and blues music. Notable RnB artists include Ray Charles, who is often credited with originating the genre, and Motown acts like The Supremes and Stevie Wonder, who helped popularize it. The genre has been highly influential across many forms of music, and its emphasis on rhythm over melody has shaped the development of rock and roll, soul, and funk music.
