Azteca was an American Latin rock/jazz fusion group formed in 1972 by brothers Pete and Coke Escovedo, both former members of Santana. The band was noteworthy for its complex, multi-layered fusion of Latin rhythms, rock, funk, jazz, and soul, showcasing the diverse musical backgrounds of its members. With a large, revolving lineup often including up to 25 members, Azteca was recognized for its powerful ensemble sound, punctuated by vibrant horn sections and intricate percussive elements. Their self-titled debut album, "Azteca," released in 1972, is considered an influential work in the Latin rock genre.
