Azymuth is a Brazilian jazz-funk trio formed in 1973, known for their innovative fusion of jazz, funk, and Brazilian styles. Comprised of the late José Roberto Bertrami on keyboards, Alex Malheiros on bass, and Ivan Conti on drums, they are renowned for pioneering the genre known as "samba doido" (crazy samba). Their signature sound is defined by Bertrami's eclectic keyboarding, which blends traditional jazz with electronic music. Their seminal 1979 album "Light as a Feather," which features the hit jazz-funk track "Jazz Carnival," is considered a landmark in the fusion of American and Brazilian music.
