Big Star was an American rock band formed in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1971 by Alex Chilton, Chris Bell, Jody Stephens, and Andy Hummel. The band is known for its fusion of British invasion-inspired pop melodies and American rock, with elements of power pop and folk-rock. Although commercial success eluded them during their active years, Big Star's three albums, "#1 Record", "Radio City", and "Third/Sister Lovers", have since been recognized as significant influences in the development of alternative rock and power pop. Their music, characterized by melodic hooks, jangling guitars, and deeply personal lyrics, continues to inspire generations of musicians.
