Bonzo Goes To Washington was a short-lived musical project formed in 1984 by Jerry Harrison of Talking Heads and Bootsy Collins, a pioneer of funk. Their distinctive sound blended elements of funk, rock, and electronic music. The band's primary claim to fame is the politically-charged single "5 Minutes," a commentary on President Ronald Reagan's accidental public joke about bombing Russia. Although not a commercial success, Bonzo Goes To Washington provided a significant example of politically-engaged music in the 1980s.
