Freddy Cannon, also known as "Boom Boom", is an American rock and roll singer, whose biggest international hits include "Tallahassee Lassie" and "Way Down Yonder in New Orleans". His music is characterized by a distinctive, high-energy performance style and a simple, yet infectious melody driven by hand-clapping and strong rhythmic accompaniment. Cannon's contributions helped shape the sound of rock and roll in the late 1950s and early 1960s. The Belmonts are not associated with Freddy Cannon, but are a separate doo-wop group known for their work with Dion DiMucci.
