Hot Butter was an instrumental cover band primarily active in the early 1970s, best known for their 1972 synth-driven hit "Popcorn". The band, led by keyboardist Stan Free, pioneered the use of the Moog synthesizer in popular music, helping to bring the instrument into mainstream consciousness. Their music, often described as a blend of pop and early electronica, was characterized by catchy, repetitive melodies and a distinct futuristic sound. Despite a short career, Hot Butter's influence can be seen in the later rise of synth-pop and electronic music genres.
