Marvin Holmes & The Uptights were a funk and soul band active during the 1960s and 70s, originating from Oakland, California. Led by guitarist Marvin Holmes, the band became known for their tight, grooving style that helped define the Bay Area's funk scene. They are best remembered for their 1967 hit "Funky Mule," which featured a distinctive, pulsating rhythm that would later be sampled by numerous hip-hop artists. Despite their limited commercial success, Marvin Holmes & The Uptights were instrumental in shaping the sound of West Coast funk and soul.
