Pavement is an influential American indie rock band that formed in 1989. Primarily consisting of Stephen Malkmus (vocals and guitar), Scott Kannberg (guitar), Mark Ibold (bass), Steve West (drums), and Bob Nastanovich (percussion), their lo-fi sound and cryptic lyrics became a defining characteristic of 1990s alternative rock. Pavement's 1992 debut album "Slanted and Enchanted" is often cited as a milestone in the genre.
