People was a one-hit-wonder band from the late 60s, best known for their psychedelic rock version of the song "I Love You" which reached number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1968. The band was formed in San Jose, California and featured Larry Norman who later became a pioneer in Christian rock. Although their mainstream success was short-lived, People's fusion of psychedelic and garage rock has been influential in the evolution of rock music. Their sound is characterized by heavy use of distortion, simple, repetitive lyrics, and Norman's unique vocal style.
