The Church Street Five

The Church Street Five was an influential American jazz and rhythm & blues band from Norfolk, Virginia. Active in the late 1950s and early 1960s, they are notable for their contributions to the development of the "Norfolk Sound." The band's distinctive sound was characterized by the saxophone work of Gene Barge and the organ playing of Leonard Barks, both of whom significantly influenced the rhythm & blues genre. Their most famous work, "A Night with Daddy 'G'", is considered a classic of the style.
