The Originals were an American soul group from Detroit, Michigan, active primarily during the late 1960s and 1970s. Signed to Motown Records, they became known for their smooth harmonies and versatile sound, which incorporated elements of R&B, pop, and disco. The group, consisting of members Freddie Gorman, Walter Gaines, C.P. Spencer, Hank Dixon, and Ty Hunter, had several hits, including "Baby, I'm for Real" and "The Bells". Despite their less prominent status compared to other Motown acts, The Originals made a significant contribution to the label's distinctive sound.
