The Parliaments

The Parliaments were an American doo-wop quintet from Plainfield, New Jersey, formed in the late 1950s and led by George Clinton. Their musical style was a blend of funk, soul, and psychedelic music, with Clinton's distinct lyrical style adding a unique element to their sound. The group is particularly known for their hit single "(I Wanna) Testify", which marked their breakthrough into mainstream music. The Parliaments are significant for their influence on the evolution of funk music, particularly through members who later formed the groundbreaking bands Funkadelic and Parliament.
