The Satintones were an American doo-wop group formed in Detroit, Michigan, in 1957. They were the first group signed to Motown Records, an association that significantly shaped the label's early sound. The original members included James Ellis, Robert Bateman, Sonny Sanders, and Wilson Pickett's future replacement in The Falcons, Eddie Floyd. Despite their limited commercial success, the group's harmonic style and soulful performances had a profound influence on the development of Motown's distinctive sound.
