Thunderclap Newman was a British rock band that achieved brief but significant fame in the late 1960s. Known for their fusion of rock, psychedelic pop and orchestral arrangements, they are best remembered for their 1969 hit single "Something in the Air." The band was a pet project of The Who's Pete Townshend, who assembled the trio that included an eccentric jazz pianist, Andy 'Thunderclap' Newman, and a 15-year-old guitarist, Jimmy McCulloch. Despite their short-lived career, Thunderclap Newman made a lasting impression on the British rock scene.
