The Violent Femmes are an American folk punk band from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, formed in 1980. Comprising singer/guitarist Gordon Gano, bassist Brian Ritchie, and drummer Victor DeLorenzo, the band distinguished themselves with a raw, acoustic sound and anguished lyrics. They gained prominence with their self-titled debut album, featuring notable tracks like "Blister in the Sun" and "Add It Up". Their style, which blended elements of punk rock with folk music, was instrumental in the creation of the folk punk genre and has influenced a number of alternative rock bands.
